Brunswick Stew

Brunswick Stew has been one of my favorites since I was a kid!! I like it so much that I’m happy going to a barbecue joint and skipping all the other food in favor of the stew! The trouble with cooking it is that there are so many variations and everyone has their own preferences.

Smoked Wings - Wings done

Smoked Wings

The first time I had any type of grilled wings was about a year ago at a local barbecue restaurant and they became an instant favorite. I’ve always loved traditional hot wings so I’ve never given any thought to grilled wings. Ever since then I’ve been looking to make some really good smoked wings on the grill. This recipe has quickly become one of my favorite things to grill.

Finished Hush Puppies

Hush Puppies

I love hush puppies! When I was a kid my parents had a lake house where we would spend a lot of our free time. Weekends at the lake were the best with boating, swimming, and fishing. After a long day on the lake we would often go to a local seafood restaurant called Henderson’s that had the best hush puppies.

Sausage Frittata

Sausage Frittata

I’ve always loved cooking and eating Omelettes ever since I was introduced to them. At some point though I was also introduced to Frittatas and immediately liked them as well. To be honest, I like any kind of breakfast dish with an egg base just like tarts and casseroles too.

Finished loaf

Boule! (with Oil and Vinegar Dip)

Bread is one of my favorite things to make. I love how such simple and basic ingredients make something so good. Since the ingredients are simple most of bread making is all about the technique. I posted my favorite sandwich bread a couple months ago titled Simple Sandwich Bread. This is one of my favorite artisan loafs to make. You can use it for gourmet sandwich bread or serve it with a meal.

Finished Cobbler

Strawberry Cobbler

Cobbler is one of my favorite desserts and it’s been on that list since I was a boy when I grew up eating my Mimi’s (dad’s mother) peach cobbler. She was one of the best cooks ever and her peach cobbler was AMAZING. Hers was the peach cobbler that I judge all other peach cobblers by and most just don’t live up to the expectation.

Grilled Chicken Pasta with Tomato-Basil Cream Sauce

My all-time favorite type of food to eat is Italian. It’s been my favorite for a long time and I could pretty much eat something Italian everyday. This past summer I was fortunate enough to take a trip to Italy and it was amazing. This was something I had wanted to do for a really long time even before I got into cooking but my more recent interest into cooking made the trip even that more meaningful. I was able to try so many of my favorite dishes from the states as well as other dishes I’ve never tried.

Finished Pico

Pico de Gallo

PICO!! I love pico! I use to hate it mainly because of all the diced up raw tomatoes but over time it has grown on me significantly. It’s made up of all fresh and natural ingredients so it really comes together as a nice unadulterated snack when compared to half the processed foods you could be eating these days. I also really enjoy making pico because pretty much all your time is spent prepping the ingredients. I know some people hate it but I love doing prep work on fruits and vegetables. It can be time consuming and tedious but I find something about it oddly fulfilling.

Finished Stir Fry Dish

Steak and Bell Pepper Stir Fry

I love making stir fry dishes and I love eating them too! There’s so many good stir fry recipes out there. You can go spicy, sweet, or find a sauce somewhere in between.  Also you can tweak the ingredients to your tastes whether you want chicken or steak or just vegetarian. If you don’t like a particular vegetable in a stir fry, you can easily swap another one into the recipe.

Serving of the casserole

Basic Hash Brown Casserole

I love potatoes and I can eat them just about anyway they are cooked. However, I was never a really big fan of hash browns. I think it had something to do with the grated hash browns you get often in restaurants. Whenever I tried them they were either soaked in grease or they were overly moist because they weren’t cooked long enough after being frozen. At some point, I was introduced to the hash browns where you use nice diced chunks of potatoes and I instantly like this rendition, probably because they taste a lot like diced up French fries.
